Lab Manager

Who Are We?

We are on a mission to help patients regain independence through the thoughtful design of safe and reversible therapeutics. You may be, accurately, wondering “how do you do this”? Well, our team is developing a proprietary technology platform to target various regenerative pathways critical for the establishment of complex diseases.

We are looking for team members to join ASAP.

Our small but rapidly growing team currently operates out of South San Francisco. We are easily accessible from SF, the Peninsula, and the East Bay (for those interested in the occasional ferry rides).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Operational Lead to ensure efficient and effective lab operations

  • Serve as the lead manager of BSL-1, BSL-2, cell biology, virus and other laboratories

  • Dependent on experience / performance, ability to advance towards a role with direct report(s)

  • Primary role will be to support day-to-day operational activities critical across all R&D teams, including: procurement, inventory tracking, lab safety, and equipment monitoring/maintenance/repair, etc.

  • Dependent on interest / experience, candidate can also conduct research experiment or strategic initiatives

  • Establish and enforce SOPs to ensure team safety; Maintain compliant lab practices within research laboratory and adjacent office space

  • Represent company at the highest professional level with inspectors, vendors, and all external parties

  • Ensure smooth and continuous lab operations by monitoring inventory levels and anticipating and preparing for laboratory needs; establish and maintain LIMS

  • Serve as biosafety officer for company, and manage relationship with local inspectors, as needed

  • Maintain and update SDS / MSDS documentation

  • Maintain ELN as administrator

  • Other ad-hoc duties when needed

Qualifications

  • BS / MS in related scientific field and 3+ years of relevant work experience (Molecular biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, cell culture or other biological discipline)

  • Experience or familiarity in laboratory buildout and electronic lab data (ELN) management tools

  • Proficient in sourcing, procurement, negotiating, and ordering lab reagents and/or equipment, while building strong relationships with vendors

  • Experience with monitoring, fixing/maintaining lab equipment and/or dealing with technical vendors

  • Experience or familiarity in managing environmental health and safety (EH&S) and risk assessments

  • Experience or familiarity in implementing LIMS system

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to lead and direct others

  • An eagerness to build structure and organization / workflows in rapidly changing startup environment

  • Proactive and curious

  • Proficient in basic computer tools, including MS Office, Box/Dropbox, project management tools, etc

  • Prior experience or familiarity in managing biosafety responsibilities is a plus

  • Prior startup lab experience is a plus
